The Montamarathon Trophy was held for the first time on the newly constructed board oval
at Tacoma, and was open to cars with a 450 cubic inch maximum capacity. The race was
marred by the fatal accident of William Carlson, which also killed his mechanician
Paul Framzen. Following the accident, the Maxwell team manager Ray Harroun retired the
team, and the cars never raced again.

National Championship Trail race to be held on this board oval. As at the Tacoma board oval,
