The race was as the title says, simply manic.
It was non-stop physical action, and
a hard fought race.
Danny Pfeil sat the race out in the pit lane
as the cars set off on a clean start, Huisman leading from Kelleners.
And then the action started, number 24 being nudged into a power
slide around the corners by guest driver Markku Alen, the Finnish
Rally star.
Going into the first corner, Gerhard Mueller
was attacked by Frank Schmickler, Mueller
being left facing the wrong way in the middle of the corner. Cars
scattered either side, and everyone continued. A lap later, and
series champion Harald Grohs was in the pits, his right rear tyre
rubbing the bodywork thanks to a brush with the wall. Tony Rohr
did likewise a few laps later, but speared across the track afterwards
into the wall before rebounding back out into the track, the car
destroyed. The safety car was then brought out.
A few laps later, and the race was restarted,
the proximity of the cars equating to trouble. At the first corner,
Axel Rohr tipped Olivier Mai into a spin, also sideswiping him
on the corner exit. Mai went to spin himself back around, but
managed to drive into the side of Patrick Simon instead, who was
trying to keep out of everyone's way by driving around the outside
instead. All eventually continued on their way.
One corner later though and Mai's bonnet flew
up, courtesy of a rearranged front end from his contact with Simon.
Mai slowed down, the bonnet fell back down again, and then he
headed pitwards.
By now there was a lot of oil on the track,
and the red flags were shortly brought out, the results being
declared.
